Information Technology Intern

Applications Analyst
As an Applications Analyst intern at the Corporate Office in Spicer, Minnesota, you will report to a senior member of the Applications staff and work with the Applications Analyst Team.  You will be introduced to industry hardware, software and development processes and tools.

The full-time, 40 hour per week, summer internship will last approximately three months. You’ll be using your technical skills, but equally important, you’ll be utilizing your leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills to:

•    Participate in application department meetings.
•    Define business requirements.
•    Analyze and recommend program changes or new technologies.
•    Design, write and test application programs and assist with implementation.

Technical Analyst
As a Technical Analyst intern at the Corporate Office in Spicer, Minnesota, you will report to a senior member of the Technical Services staff and work with the Technical Analyst Team.  You will be introduced to our company’s Information Technology infrastructure, operating systems, and application software.  
The full-time, 40 hour per week, summer internship will last approximately three months. You’ll be using your technical skills, but equally important, you’ll be utilizing your leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills to:

•    Participate in Technical Services department meetings.
•    Define technical requirements.
•    Assist with the planning and implementation of hardware and related software    projects.
•    Analyze and recommend system changes or new technologies.

Qualified candidates will have completed their junior year in Business Computer Information Systems (BCIS) , Computer Science or Management Information Systems (MIS), with a minimum 2.7 GPA; and demonstrated strong analytical skills and solid communication skills.

Information Technology Intern Day in the Life

To get a sense of what a typical day is like for an IT Intern, take a look at a day in the life of Wayne who works in the Barron, Wisconsin Plant. This is an entry from his eighth week at Jennie-O Turkey Store.

7:00 a.m.
I arrive to work, punch in and turn my computer on to start my day. I check my emails and the Clientele program throughout my day to see things that need to be done and to see who needs help throughout the company. If at a point in time where there is nothing I see that can be done, I go to others and see if I can help them in any way that I can. If there are customers that need assistance I help them out and solve their questions or problems they might have. Some of the problems I run into most of the time are: Hardware doesn’t work. Mouse, keyboard, monitor, even the pc - Everything has to work to get the job done; a program isn’t working correctly; settings are not right (Display, Preferences, etc….). No matter what it is there is always a way to fix a problem, even if you simply have to replace it or fix the situation, the client needs to be happy about their equipment and everything just needs to work. It’s their job.

11:00 a.m.
I go to lunch

11:30 a.m.
Return from lunch and resume what I have been working on. I continue checking my email and Clientele. When there is a break where I can't do anything, I will research and continue to learn about the new hardware and software to better my knowledge in the field.

3:45 p.m.
I make sure that whatever I’m working on is getting wrapped up.

4:00 p.m.
Time to go home. I shut down my computer, push in my chair and go punch out.
