How to Make a Juicy Turkey Burger

Take the fat out of your burger—not the flavor! You can easily avoid serving dry, flavorless turkey burgers. Simply follow these simple tips for grilling a juicy turkey burger that will have everyone begging for your secrets.
 


STEP 1: Don’t over mix the ground meat

Working with the turkey too much can make it dense and tough.


 



STEP 2: Add some oil or onions

Add 2 tablespoons of heart-healthy olive oil or sautéed onions to the ground turkey before forming patties.



 



STEP 3: Form patties

Create 1/2 inch thick for even cooking (no dry edges!) 


 



STEP 4: Keep your patties cold

Put them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them for the juiciest, tastiest burgers



 



STEP 5: Dont press your burgers 

Pushing down on your burgers with your spatula will cause you to lose the juices!


 



STEP 6: Turn meat just once on the grill

Turning too often slows cooking and can result in a tough, dry burger


 



STEP 7: Don’t overcook the burgers

Start with 9 minutes on each side; use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s cooked to 165 F; cook longer if necessary


 



STEP 8: Allow burgers to rest

Set your cooked patties aside for a few minutes before serving to let juices redistribute.
