Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (28-ounce) cans Italian-style plum tomatoes, undrained and coarsely chopped
  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1½ teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 (19.5-ounce) package JENNIE-O® Lean Hot Italian Turkey Sausage
  • 12 ounces spaghetti, cooked and drained
  • ¼ cup grated Romano cheese, if desired

Directions

  1. In large saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic; cook 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar; bring to a simmer. Simmer, uncovered, 25 to 35 minutes or until sauce is desired consistency.
  2. While sauce is simmering, Cook sausage as specified on the package. Always cook to well-done, 165°F as measured by a meat thermometer. Cut sausage into ½-inch slices and add to sauce. Sever over spaghetti noodles and sprinkle with cheese, if desired.
