Here’s a classic American recipe that’s as kid-friendly as it is easy to make. Made with lean ground turkey, garlic and bell peppers, Spicy Turkey Sloppy Joes are hearty and full of flavor. All for under 500 calories per serving.
(16-ounce) package JENNIE-O® Lean Ground Turkey
tablespoon vegetable oil
small onion, chopped
cup diced green or yellow bell pepper
cloves minced garlic
cup chili sauce
tablespoons worcestershire sauce
tablespoon tomato paste
teaspoon hot pepper sauce
whole wheat buns, split
Spray a skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Preheat skillet over medium-high heat.
Add ground turkey to hot skillet. Stir to crumble, approximately 14 to 16 minutes. Always cook to well-done, 165°F. as measured by a meat thermometer.
In skillet, over medium heat add oil, onion, bell pepper and garlic; cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add turkey, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and hot pepper sauce.
Simmer 10 to 15 minutes or until sauce thickens. Spoon mixture on split buns.
